Caroline J. Brau
Caroline J. Brau, age 93 of Lucan passed away Thursday, October
15, 2009 at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday,
October 19 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Lucan.
Visitation will be 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday
at the church with a 6:00 p.m. Rosary and a 7:00 p.m. Parish Prayer
Service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the services
at the church on Monday. Interment is in Our Lady of Victory Catholic
Cemetery. The Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family
with arrangements.
Caroline Josephine (Gorres) Brau was born August 2, 1916 in Wanda,
Minnesota to Charles and Rose (Fernholtz) Gorres. On February 18,
1936 she married Otto “Ole” John Brau at St. Mathias
Catholic Church in Wanda. They farmed near Lucan, MN until retirement.
She loved to work and kept busy baking, cooking, painting dish towels,
sewing, and playing cards. She had a big garden, strawberry patch
and loved her flower beds. She loved to have friends over to visit
and go dancing on Saturday night. Caroline was a member of the Catholic
Aid Society and Star Member of Christian Mothers Society in Lucan
for many years.
Caroline is survived by two daughters: LaVonne (Kenneth) Portner
and Audrey Portner both of New Ulm; and two sons: Charles (Norma)
Brau of Monona, IA and Kenneth (Nancy) Brau of Windom; one sister
Ethel Zajic of Charles City, IA; and one sister-in-law Marion (Sylvester)
Hoffman of Redwood Falls; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren;
10 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was
preceded in death by her husband “Ole” on March 22,
1991; a grandson Dean Brau; and a son-in-law Charles Portner, Jr.;
daughter-in-law Candace Brau; three sisters; and three brothers;
and her parents.
